Social Justice Book Club

The Social Justice Book Club grew out of a Twitter conversation with Shannon from River City Reading and Shaina of Shaina Reads. We kicked of #SJBookClub with Bryan Stevenson's Just Mercy in April 2016, and the rest is history. Janani of The Shrinkette joined as co-host in 2017.

The rules are simple: there are no rules. We'll generally start on the 1st of the month and aim to wrap up by the last day of the month, but life happens, and we get that. Post when you can, when you want. Conversations on IG, FB and Twitter can be tagged with the hashtag #SJBookClub.

Want to recommend a book for the club to consider? That's easy: just fill out this form.

March 2017: Enrique's Journey, by Sonia Nazario

January 2017: Hope in the Dark, by Rebecca Solnit

Note that due to the typical scheduling insanity that comes in December with holidays and end-of-year activities, there was no book club for December 2016. The club resumed in January 2017, continuing a bi-monthly schedule.

  2. Ah, this is the book club that I have always wanted to find & didn't know actually existed! I may be too late for June, but I'll definitely check back for the August book!

    1. It's new, so you haven't been missing out on too much yet! We're still very much shaping what this club will be and how it will function, so would love any ideas you have going ahead... glad to have you joining us in August! I'll be picking a book for the month in the next few days :-)
